Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart) announced in September an $8 million sport relief fund to help sport and recreation organizations continue to deliver programming in 2020 and beyond.
Many community organizations have shut their doors due to the financial burden created by COVID-19, including lost revenue and increased program costs. The Manitoba Wheelchair Sport Association has experienced the impacts of this pandemic first-hand.
We are honoured to be among the 668 sport and recreation organizations across Canada to receive funding from Jumpstart. We are grateful to receive this news and are excited to see the positive impact it will have on sport and recreation organizations and their participants across the country.
With Jumpstart’s support, MWSA will be able to purchase new wheels and wheelchairs to help renew our aging equipment. This renewal will ensure MWSA is strong and ready to return back to sport as we emerge from these challenging times.
Along with Jumpstart, we understand the critical role sport plays in the health and well-being of children and their families, and how sport plays an even more important role for youth with disabilities. Together, we will be doing everything possible to ensure grassroots sports continue to thrive in our communities.
