In response to the ongoing concerns resulting from the COVID-19 coronavirus, and in acknowledgement of suggested recommendations from Manitoba Health, Seniors, and Active Living (effective March 13, 2020), MWSA is implementing the following measures immediately:
1. Suspension of sport program activities, both recreational and high-performance until further notice;
2. Cancellation of all outreach activities, including MWSA’s schools demonstrations program, until further notice;
Notice surrounding regional and national tournaments:
MWSA will continue to work with Wheelchair Rugby Canada in determining whether or not Team Manitoba will be sending athletes to Wheelchair Rugby Nationals. Wheelchair Rugby Canada and Defi Sportif Altergo are presently evaluating the status of the national championships. As a result, MWSA is not currently facilitating attendance to this tournament. If this position changes, MWSA will immediately advise those concerned.
Wheelchair Basketball Canada has cancelled all domestic tournaments, including Junior West Regional Championships.
As an organization, MWSA will continue to act in accordance with recommendations from Manitoba Health, Seniors, and Active Living which states:
“considering avoiding travel, crowded place and events, especially if you are at high risk (e.g. seniors and those with underlying medical conditions)”
The health and safety of all participants in sport, including players, coaches, staff, officials, fans, family, volunteers and the general public, is of the utmost importance to MWSA. We believe the above measures are necessary to fulfill this obligation.
