The Manitoba Wheelchair Sport Association (MWSA) was established as a means of contributing to and providing incentive for, the total development of physically disabled persons by presenting them with opportunities to participate in a variety of recreational activities and wheelchair sport programs.
The MWSA is unique in the fact that we are the only organization that provides these kinds of sport related opportunities and programs. The MWSA is also concerned with the public acceptance of the physically disabled and we provide assistance to these groups as they work toward integration in their community organizations.
The Manitoba Wheelchair Sport Association began in 1962 as the Monday Night Club with assistance from the Canadian Paraplegic Association, the Manitoba Rehabilitation Hospital and The Society for Crippled Children and Adults. In 1969, the Club expanded into a Provincial Organization with its own constitution. Today, members from every part of Manitoba form a strong active and self-governing association.
To be a well known, vibrant and dynamic (evolving) organization providing a broad range of sport and leisure activities and programs and maintaining optimal health and wellness for fully engaged members living in an inclusive society.
The Manitoba Wheelchair Sport Association is committed to leadership in the promotion of well being and a healthy lifestyle through the development of sport and fitness related opportunities for physically disabled Manitobans.
